The layout of your kitchen—where you position your appliances, your worktops, and your storage—will determine how cook-friendly your kitchen is. Ask yourself:
- Will I have to walk far to get water to top up a pan on the cooker?
- Will I have enough workspace to prepare meals?
- Will I have room to store the condiments at the cooker or will I have to go across the room to get it?
- Will two or more cooks be able to work comfortably in the space without constantly getting in each others way?
- Will I be able to conveniently rinse dishes and load them into the dishwasher without dripping water all over the kitchen floor?
- Do I prefer a range or a separate hob and oven?
- What are my sink requirements?
- Will my family be eating in the kitchen?
If you are working with an existing room, your layout options will be restricted. However, the choice is yours if you are building a new home or adding on and of course the more space you have the wider the possibilities. The diagrams below show the most common kitchen layout.
